Halifax Harbor
Halifax Harbor, late September
How long before I forget your face
It’s just three months but already I can’t remember
The smell of your hair or why we chose this place
And there’s a stiff wind blowing in my eyes
And there’s a rising tide creeping toward my feet
There’s not much left here when the summer flies
And there’s no current in this channel guiding me
Sometimes I find your eyes in the green froth of the ocean
And then I lose them in the very next swell
Somewhere out there, I suppose you’re in motion
And I’ll say one last prayer that the world treats you well
And there’s a stiff wind blowing in my eyes
And there’s a rising tide creeping toward my feet
I think I’m getting hardened to these darker skies
But there’s no shelter from this storm inside of me
The day we climbed the lighthouse down Chebuctu Head
It was deep July and I remember every word you said
I’ve been moving all my days
When I find something right, I chase it away
Mama Gratti’s Deli is closing for the season
It’s just the locals now left in town
But I’m still here, and I’m looking for a reason
To keep myself from shutting down
And there’s a stiff wind blowing in my eyes
And there’s a rising tide creeping toward my feet
There’s not much left here when the summer flies
And there’s no current in this channel guiding me
Halifax Harbor, late September
